Stop earning a living while losing it !
ALL ON STRIKE FROM 23 TO 29 JULY 2024

Air France is under fire and being accused of using their flight crew as guinea-pigs in a three-year cabin air study instead of taking immediate action for the welfare and well-being of passengers and crew. The UGICT-PNC organisation is demanding an immediate halt to this practice, stating: "We are tired of flying on planes where our lives are at risk and where maintenance is not a priority". After spending over three years on a study, which can be described as a repeat from previously published studies while continuing to expose unwilling and unaware "participants" to the polluted air, it is unclear what else Air France plans to do. It is widely known that organophosphates, that were detected and confirmed to be in the aircraft cabin air decades ago, are toxic to the human system. In the pamphlet (see pdf) they are calling for a strike and are demanding to know: "How many more years will it take for Air France to stop intoxicating its passengers by ignoring existing international guidelines?" A cross-reference of the data published in the EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) and ACER (Airline Cabin Environment Research)reveals that at least 43 substances in the aeronautical industry are 'CoCs = chemicals of concern', chemical compounds or substances, which have hazardous properties and cause concern to human health (or the environment). The comparison to asbestos comes to mind. For decades companies did nothing to protect workers health, thousands have died since from now proven asbestos induced illnesses such as asbestosis disorders of the lung and pleura caused by the inhalation of asbestos fibers. Air France is doing the same thing as they continue to knowingly expose aircrew and passengers to polluted cabin air while claiming to be a model company. The UGICT-PNC is calling for an immediate halt to these, according to them, "criminal activities". And who can blame them? Most employees are aware of the circumstances surrounding the exposure to toxic fumes. Aircraft are operated without adhering to the manufacturers' recommendations for extended periods and are not being subjected to the recommended decontamination procedures. As the Independent Safety Review Team recommended in 2011: "It is essential to replace those in key positions who have demonstrated a lack of competence with individuals who possess the requisite knowledge and skills." The call for STRIKE includes these chilling words: "If you wish to avoid developing Alzheimer's, cancer and other ailments please join us in a STRIKE from 23 - 29 July 2024 It is our duty to defend our health and the safety of our flights, which are evidently of no concern to civil aviation and its lobby." |
